The self-assessment examination is an isolated activity that fulfills the re-credentialing requirement for ABPM Diplomates holding Lifetime Certificates. Participation in the Self-Assessment Pathway requires completing the Self-Assessment Exam every 10 years (with a fee of $725), providing evidence of professional standing, and maintaining state licensure annually. As an alternative, Lifetime Diplomates may opt to follow the more rigorous Continuing Certification Pathway, which is the required pathway for Time Limited Diplomates.
Lifetime Certificate holders are advised to review third party contracts carefully. ABPM headquarters is mandated to inform inquiring third party credentialing organizations who seek verification of a Diplomate’s status and the method by which the Diplomate has been re-evaluated.
Lifetime Certificate Holders who fail to meet the re-credentialing requirement via self-assessment by the 10th year from their prior re-credentialing date, or who fail to voluntarily enter the CC Program by the 10th year from their prior re-credentialing date will have their diplomate status revoked.
