On-Site Evaluator

The Collaborative Residency Evaluator Committee (CREC) seeks nominations of diplomates from the American Board of Podiatric Medicine for potential appointment as residency program on-site evaluators. CREC is the collaborative effort of ABPM, the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS), and the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) to oversee the selection, training, and assessment of podiatric residency evaluators and team chairs.

Responsibilities of the ABPM team representative include participation in the evaluation of approved and applicant programs throughout the year. Before being appointed as a full team member representing ABPM, new evaluators participate in an introductory workshop conducted at an APMA Annual Scientific Meeting, complete an online training module, and observe at least one on-site visit. Council staff administers all aspects of the residency approval process.

Evaluators will:

Have a working knowledge of CPME 320, Standards and Requirements for Approval of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residencies and CPME 330, Procedures for Approval of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residencies
Participate in one to two site visits per year (one per cycle), generally including overnight travel
Become thoroughly familiar with the pre-evaluation materials provided by the institution prior to the on-site visit
Be familiar with Podiatry Residency Resource (PRR), including the various report functions. The ABPM rep will review the program’s clinical logs in advance of the visit for accuracy, resident involvement on cases, progressive training, and timely review and verification by the program director. Logs must be reviewed for accuracy to ensure there is no duplication, miscategorization, and/or fragmentation of procedures. The evaluator must possess knowledge of the Minimum Activity Volume (MAV) requirements and diversity of cases and procedures for the PMSR program as described in Appendix A in CPME 320.
Review patient charts and imaging studies as appropriate
Assess resident training in performing comprehensive medical H&Ps, trauma, and podopediatrics
Assess resident training in performing biomechanical examinations
