ABPM to Launch “Why I Want to be an ABPM Podiatrist” Scholarship

LOS ANGELES, CA., – The American Board of Podiatric Medicine (ABPM), the nation’s premier certifying board for Doctors of Podiatric Medicine, has developed a new scholarship program for podiatry students and young practitioners to develop future leaders of the profession through immersive clinical and conference experiences.

The scholarship shall be awarded to one student and one qualifying resident DPM, to include a paid trip to the American Society of Podiatric Surgeons (ASPS) Conference next year. Candidates may also choose to attend the International Federation of Podiatrists (FIP) Global Podiatry Summit. To qualify for the award, ABPM has developed the following criteria for entrants to meet for consideration:

  • Competitive applicants will create, record and submit one short video (max. 60 seconds) that explains, in a compelling fashion, “Why I Want to be an ABPM Podiatrist.”
  • Videos should be uploaded to Meta, X (formerly Twitter) or TikTok platforms with the hashtag #whyabpmpodiatry AND tagging @podiatryboard.
  • Videos should be posted between October 30 and December 30, 2023, limit one per applicant.
  • Qualifying applicants must be either a final year podiatric medical school student or in any year of their CPME-approved PMSR/RRA-36 residency program.

Applicants shall be chosen at the January meeting of the Board of Directors and will be notified appropriately.

ABPM recognizes the gravity of the current leadership crisis within the profession and its inability to meet the needs of current and future generations of podiatrists. ABPM developed the scholarship to groom the next generation of leaders in podiatry by exposing them to cutting edge clinical conferences and familiarizing them with the litany of ways board certification in podiatric orthopedics and primary podiatric medicine can serve them for the life of their career.
